I began running at 3:00AM April 14, 2010. In the middle of a sleepless night, I crawled out of bed, pulled on my ill-fitting, worn-out lawnmowing sneakers and quickly found out what Illiotibial Band Syndrome feels like. I went from “Couch to 5K” in slightly less than one painful hour.
With a lot of advice and encouragement from a running group at work, I learned to appreciate running for the sake of running and not just as a means to burn off frustrations. I’ve come to enjoy the challenge of always improving my fitness and I am thrilled with the results. A fit lifestyle is contagious and I’d love to help you to catch the bug.
At a race this weekend, another runner asked me “Are you a speed guy, or a distance guy?” I’d like to do better at both so my goals are simply stated:
Run farther, run faster, run farther faster.
I will run my first full marathon on October 15, 2011. I am strongly considering extending my distance training towards a 50K trail run in March, 2012. Of course, I’ll still enjoy trying to beat my personal records in the shorter distances too.
